Learning the Basics of Search Engine Optimization

You are a blogger or have a business online, why don’t you optimize it and make money with it? It is possible and nowadays there is nothing impossible online when it comes to SEO and making money. The best thing about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is that as long as you have internet connection, a little bit of computer skill and internet knowledge, a product or a writing skill for bloggers, and you are ready to start. Hence, you make a living inside your own comfort without thinking of getting late in the office or what to wear or being scolded by a war freak boss. Before proceeding, you must start and learn the basics of search engine optimization (SEO) or Austin Search engine optimization.

First and foremost, search engine optimization is the process of improving a certain website or webpage visible. Basically, the higher the page or the more frequent your website appears in the search result list, the more hits or site views will you get. Therefore, this is what you have to work for and learn to.

The scenario is always like this: One is searching for terms in Google and a list of page result appears. On the other hand, what are the chances of a certain site to be in the first page of result list or at least in the top? Keywords play an important role on SEO and understanding what keywords or tags are for is important. The competition is very hard-hitting when it comes to page ranks especially when those who manipulate the top page ranks are those that are strategizing with ill intentions. Further, don’t follow the trend of black hat SEO technique, and stay with white hat SEO technique, as this is more lasting.

The SEO techniques are classified into two, which are called as the “white hat” and the “black hat”. The former type of SEO technique is what search engine providers approve as it conforms to the SEO guidelines and does not involve fraudulent schemes or spamming. The latter is just the opposite and its purpose is to manipulate the ranking and get hits, but not exactly to improve accessibility to users. Much so, SEO black hat technique involves deception and when caught would lead to suspension, reduced ranking or worse banned. It is best and safer to follow the SEO white hat technique, as it may not put your site into a trash and efforts wasted.

Furthermore, it is also basic on SEO to build backlinks. Seeing your site in the top 5 page in Google is the same as being popular. Keep that page moving up to the first page. How to go with backlinks is to link your content with similar niches or field like yours. Good and quality backlinks are given more credit.

Content Is King – Is This Still True?

Content is king

If you have been in internet marketing for any time, you would definitely know about Bounce rate. When a user visits your website from Google, Google tends to track how long the user stayed on your website and what other pages of your website they visited. This is a well known fact that longer the people stay on your webpage, higher you will be ranked for your keywords. Google considers bounce rate as an indicator of how well the content on your website is. If your website has great, informative, useful, fresh and to the point, the user will surely be interested in staying on your website for much longer.

In today`s mind set, if you have a page with 1000s of words on it, there is huge chance that your user will close your site even before start reading your content, as people don’t like reading very long text. If you really want to be successful and make sure that both the visitors and the search engines like your website make sure that your content is crystal clear, to the point and highly organized.

SEO Campaign is considered successful only when an SEO professional is able to show Google, Bing and other major search engines that your site contains valuable and up-to-date content for the users related to their search query. Google says that content must be fresh and valuable to the users, but this “valuable” has its own meaning if you dig down a bit. Even though Google does not give straight instructions on how to optimize a website but few things become pretty obvious by seeing the successful websites. A website having no content on a website gives search spiders an indication that this website is not good enough for the users. Same goes for web pages that contain huge or a lot of images, those pages are not considered as SEO friendly even if proper alt and title tags are used, and the image shows the purpose of the page perfectly. On the other hand having overly long text on a webpage is equally annoying for search spiders. Search engine spiders unorganized, disjointed and spun content that makes no sense and contains grammatical and spelling mistakes. Similarly, people don’t want to read a 4000 words article to know about their problem. They need a efficiently presented information that addresses their problems very easily. Having a lot of content on your page increases the chance of missing out the most important part of the page that answers the users question. This will result in a website that is filled with content becoming useless and junk for search engines and will start dropping in the SERPs.

5 Important Tweaks For On-Site SEO

The first move for launching any successful SEO (search engine optimization) campaign is for you to totally optimize every part of your site to obtain a high density for your keywords. This article will focus on five crucial elements of your site that need to be optimized.

Title Tag – Your HTML title tag will be ranked for keyword relevance. This makes it an excellent place to put your keywords, but you need to use them smartly. You don’t want to list every keyword you have, but just a couple that will flow naturally within your title. Try to change these up from one webpage to the next.

Alt Tags – When you see ‘Alt’ is stands for alternate. It’s actually an attribute even though it’s usually referred to as being a tag. This is the text that is going to appear if an image can’t be displayed. Although you need to use it for describing your image, you can additionally add keywords after this.

Visible Text – What this does is actually deal with the text on every page of your site. It depends on how much content you have on your site as to how difficult it will be to go back and place additional keywords to all your pages, but if you do it over a span of time it will continuously improve your results. Always remember your keywords when you are adding content onto your website. Use them whenever you can but keep a natural flow to your text.

Heading Tags – Your header tags are also used for defining your HTML heading. These headings are meant to be utilized for highlighting the various titles for web pages. This means they’re used often for describing your page content. That’s why the search engines give these tags a lot of weight in regard to rankings. They help search engines determine your site’s relevance. This is why you need to use your keywords in your tags whenever you can, but never be spammy.

Keywords In Your URL – Using your keywords within your URL is very effective for ranking with search engines, but this is very seldom tested by any of the keyword analyzer tools. When a website is already built this become much more difficult, because you have to ensure that you change any of your internal links to your pages to your new URL. Additionally you need to utilize a 301 redirect in order to make sure any of your inbound links ends up going to the right URL. When you use key phrases that have multiple words you should use hyphens rather than underscores.

Tips on Choosing the Right Keywords in SEO

A keyword is one of the primary reasons for the development of the internet over the past decades. Keywords are the words or phrases we type when we are searching for products, services and some answers on a search engine. It is significant that we cautiously select the right keywords for SEO. We should know what to use and how to use it, so we can be certain that we will be detected by searchers every time they look for something on a search engine.

Finding the correct keywords for your site is the 1st step for successful search engine optimization. In fact, you should choose keywords before starting the internet site and while developing each page, to get a better idea what to focus on in the content. Plucking out the right keywords is like deciding the correct ingredients in cooking. The wrong combination can make a difference to the search engines and not backing up keywords can result in penalizations.

There are two different types of keywords you want to incorporate in your site.

The first type is the long tail keyword, a keyword set of 3 or more words. These are the keywords that are easy to rank because of less competition. For example, instead of using the words “motor cycle” you would use the words “cheap motor cycle” or “economical motor cycle”, which are long tail keywords to increase the chance of ranking. If chosen and incorporated correctly, your internet site can rank these type of keywords in the first month.

The second type of keyword short tail keyword. This type takes longer to rank, but usually has much more search volume. When picking out a short tail keyword, you want to be sure it’s not impossible to rank, meaning you don’t need several years of work, as well as 20 people on the job to rank first page for it.

To choose good keywords, you find out the search volume, the raw results, the results for the exact keyword set and the results in the title of competing websites.

1) The search volume is found by typing in the keyword in your favorite keyword tool.

2) Then you take the keyword and type in Google and find the results (this result can go high).

3) Type the same keywords in quotes into the search box like this: “online business advertising”, to then find more accurate competing websites (under a million results is rank able within 6 months).

Remember that when you select the right keywords for SEO, it would be a great help when you do your research intensively.

Five Ways to Monetize Your Website

The world today enables us to work not only at a desk in an office but also in the virtual world. Many of us have made our first attempt by creating a website and throwing it to the wild internet world. However, the results were not as we expected. There are different tips on how to be able to monetize your website but we have chosen five of them.

CPM Advertising Networks
With a CPM (cost per mile), you will be paid for the number of page views that the ads you place on your website generates. For example if the ads on your site generate, let’s say 300,000 page views with a $1.00 CPM on a monthly basis then you will be making $300. Keep in mind that depending on the network, the rates are subject to be different. The more prestigious the network is, the higher the rate. Some of the best-known CPM networks are Casale Media, Value Click, and Tribal Fusion.

Text Link Ads
These are very simple to use and implement. They are ads made up of only text hence the name was based. One of the positive things about it is that it’s not invasive and you can sell them on your own website or make use of them in specialized networks such as Digital Point Link Sales Forum and Text-Link-Brokers.

PPC Advertising Networks

Similar to CPM but perhaps more popular, PPC also depends on the traffic that the website generates. You sign up with a known network and then place code snippets on your site. The network will supply contextual ads that are pertinent to your website and you will earn a certain rate per click. This of course depends on the traffic that the website will drive because the more clicks mean the more money you will make. Some of the best PPC networks known are Google Adsense, BidVertiser, and Clicksor.

Affiliate Marketing
One of the most popular practices done over the internet, this method enables a person that is willing to allow other people sell its products or services paying a commission. The potential customers are drawn in using different tools such as text links, reviews, or banners. Some of the best affiliate marketing networks are Commission Junction, ClickBank and Share A Sale.

Private Forums
This technique is only viable if you have valuable information that the customers are willing to pay for. There are tons of different free forums but you can still create a private one where a person will have to pay a fee in order to become a member. An example is SEO Blackhat (I do not recomend anything blackhat), which charges $100 a month to its member however, they provide them with a wide selection of secret techniques and tools that are valuable to them. Some of the known private forums are vBulletin (paid) and phpBB (free).

How to SEO a WordPress Site with Poor On Page SEO

Worked on one of my new WordPress sites today 4G Phones, just over 100 posts and 180 WordPress Tag archives!

Yes 180 Tags, plus another 20 WordPress Categories so 200 archive parts to the site!

As you can read at WordPress SEO Tip : Why Creating Lots of Categories and Tags is Anti-SEO it’s very poor on page SEO to have so many categories and tags.

It’s no wonder I’m buying sites for below $100 each with 100 posts that are failing (bought over 30 sites recently and paying on average $25 a site) that site for example has a PR2 home page, had over 1,000 pages indexed in Google and generates ~10 visitors a day (total SEO fail), most webmasters don’t have an SEO clue.
How to SEO a WordPress Site
I’ve deleted all the tags (301 redirected some with over 10 posts in the tag to home), cut down the number of categories to 9, had problems keeping the number of posts per category to 10 or less (301 redirecting deleted categories etc…) so under “Settings > Reading : Blog pages show at most” increased the number of posts shown per category page to 15 resulting in only one category rolling over to page 2.

Also changed the permalink structure, to /postname/, was set as /category/postname/ which is a pain to deal with, if you change a category slug everything messes up. Fortunately as long as you don’t have child categories /category/category2/postname/ WordPress automatically redirects the old URL (/category/postname/) to the new URL (/postname/).

Watch Out for Duplicate Content Issues
I might move some content to other sites with less content, bring it down to around 50 posts maybe. If you do this make sure you 301 redirect every post you move otherwise Google will consider the new site a duplicate site and downgrade it. Considered buying two domains recently where the owners had caused duplicate content issues, one had moved the content to a new domain without 301 redirecting and the other had copied their own content to a free BlogSpot blog and a free WordPress.org blog. In both cases the main site was Google penalized, I was finding Feed Burner like sites that scraped an excerpt of the articles ranking above the main site!

As a side note I bought this website recently (December 2012) and this is my first SEO post here. Had to make similar SEO changes to www.newtoseo.net as well, this site had categories with one post within them, narrowed it down to 4 categories with 8-10 posts each, deleted tags as well. For example had a category called “sites” and a tag called “site”, why? This site isn’t going to rank for those two single keywords! what a surprise that currently (January 2013) it’s not even averaging one visitor a day!
